ET on the Atari 2600

E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial. Warner chairman negotiates a 21 million dollar deal for the ET license from Steven Speilberg and Amblin Entertainment and Atari expects it to match the success of the movie. The game is done in five-months to get it out for Christmas 1981. The game is torture to play, I would play till I got stuck in the well that you could never get out of then give up. So frusterating. Expecting massive sales, Atari manufactures Five million copied of the game. and next to none of them sell.

They are left with a massive inventory of unsold cartridges as the game becomes one of the greatest videogame flops in history. Under cover of night sometime in 1983 a convoy of 14 tractor-trailer trucks are loaded with millions of unsold E.T cartridges littering Atari’s warehouses.  The trucks are driven to a secret landfill site in Alamogordo, New Mexico, and buried
