Reading ExBPA XML part I

We needed to work out some performance counters at work this week and I suggested that we get the directly from the ExBPA and ExPFA applications XML files. While working at Microsoft on the Exchange team one of my tasks was to write ExBPA documentation. From that I know that everything that ExBPA checks has a document associated with it. You can find all of those topics at the following link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997574.aspx

Here is an example of a Check in ExBPA that I took from the XML file.

<Rule
Name=”fStatSummaryTotalConnectorsHigh Query=”$iStatSummaryTotalConnectors >900 Error=”Warning Sev=”3 Title=”High number of connectors found Text=”More than {8} messaging connectors exist in the organization. This may cause additional load on Exchange and Active Directory servers. There are {9} connectors defined in this organization. P9=”$iStatSummaryTotalConnectors S8=”900 GUID=”032ec3cd-1fb7-45e2-aa91-ed892a0a4e50 AlwaysEvaluate=”True EventID=”1002” />

The example is pretty simple to read. It starts with the Rule name, then it shows what it Queries and what is it looking for. You can see it is looking at variable $iStatSummaryTotalConnectors that is defined earlier in the XML and looking to see if it great then 900. It is it it will issue a Severity 3 warring with the title and text of High number of connectors found Text=”More than {8} messaging connectors exist in the organization. This may cause additional load on Exchange and Active Directory servers. There are {9} connectors defined in this organization. The GUID is a link to the document online.

You should be able to plug the GUID into a link and find the document but I’m having a hard time working that out. When I find it I will update this post.
