Wallace Falls Hike

Sunday morning we were sitting in the living room all snuggled up with our laptops watching some TV, when the subject of going on a hike came up. We all kind of wanted to go, but were feeling all lazy and blown out from the night before / week before. I blame it all on Marty. He called Michelle lazy. Which in Michelle was heard as a challenge. Marty told her she did not want too go. If you know my baby, that right there is enough to MAKE her want to do something. Michelle was the first to get up, and say, “ok, fine, we are going” once she put her mind to it the rest of us soon followed. Half out later the three of is were dressed in gear, had snacks packed, and we were in the escape headed up Highway 2 to Wallace falls.

The weather was not the best hiking weather, but it was also not the worse.  there was only a slight drizzle that hardly bothered us once we were in the trees. The biggest annoyance on the hike was the group of behind us with unleashed dogs that would rub against my heals when they caught up enough.

Oh ya, and one of their dogs almost killed us before we passed them. The hike starts out under some loud crackling high power lines. As we were walking along the trail we were hit, when I say hit I mean it, by some of the worst fresh dog shit smell I’ve ever tasted, yes I said tasted, the smell was so bag you could taste it. Marty and I both yelped and cowered in fear at the toxic stuff filling in the air as it ran from the fresh pile of dog crap. Michelle some how avoided the cloud of death. WOW.. what did that dog eat? rotten squirrel or something?

Other then the people and the smell the hike was great. We were thankful for the rain, because even with the rain there were a bunch of people on the trail. I think it would have been more crowded had it been a nice day. Its about 1600 feet of gain over a few miles, so the trial is some work, but the views were well worth it. We got to see a handful of good sized high volume water falls. The biggest and last one we saw is about 200+ feet of drop. Below are a few shots to give you an idea.

We had a great time on this hike. I think we’ll come back again with Trenton. Next time maybe we’ll hike all the way up to the lake and camp for the night, then come home the next day. The lake that feeds the water falls is another 2 miles past where we turned around.
