Robbed in Olalla Part III

We are now up to being robbed three times at the property in Olalla.

  • Once before we even started clearing when we left and easy up and some tools under a quickly setup tarp shed.
  • last year around Easter when someone broke into our shed and took most my tools and enough copper wire to wire the entire house I’d picked up at a home improvement store auction
  • This time when someone came and took a 55″ touch screen TV and a my bed side gun safe with an XD9mm, a SIG 522, a few hundred rounds of 9mm, about 4,000 rounds of 22lr, and a baofeng uv5r hand held ham radio.

The plate number is A?R6562 – the rig is a black first generation Dodge Durango 1998 – 2003 with tinted back windows. Driven by a white male wearing a black long sleeve shirt.

We showed up to the property on Sunday the 26th an open gate and a chain on the ground cut with bolt cutters. Driving in we came to a door which had been pried open with a crow bar and the missing items listed above. You can see in the image of the door where the dead bolt was pried open and the metal bar which is part of the pad lock clamp was bent until it broke in half. The burglar tried to cut the lock with bolt cutters but was not able to. I replaced the chain at the gate rated at 2400 pounds with a chain rated at 6200 pounds. The old stuff you could cut with a 4 foot bolt cutter. The new stuff requires a hydraulic curter. I replaced the pad lock flap with thicker metal, added a stronger dead bolt and more steel reinforcement to the door.

We had cameras at the gate and above the shed door. Both were not hooked up to a DVR. The camera at the gate was stolen, and the camera at the door was moved. We did have a game camera which caught a Dodge Durango coming and going from the property. The camera is positioned at an angle where any car turning around at the end of the road would be captured at an angle. The Durango can be seen coming to our driveway, 2-3 minutes later it leaves without turning around. An hour later it comes back and drives down the driveway around and does not return for 10-12 minutes.

2 minutes would have been enough time to cut the chain drive down the driveway find the camera at the door, fail to open the door with bolt cutters then turn around and leave to get a crow bar. The hour in between would have been enough time to drive around 20 minutes away to retrieve more tools, return and break into the shed. The game camera was not set to a high enough resolution to clearly identify the plate number. But with some assistance of a digital forensics engineer I work with at Microsoft we have a partial of the plate. The plate number is A?R6562 – the rig is a black first generation Dodge Durango 1998 – 2003 with tinted back windows. Driven by a white male wearing a black long sleeve shirt. I also have a clear image of the tire tracks where the Durango parked to load.

The durango first came at 4:55 on Friday January 17th

Between 2-3 minutes later you can see the Durango leaving without turning around.

A bit less than an hour later the Durango returns to my drive way.

Between 10-12 minutes later the Durango leaves without turning around. The back of the truck is siting about an inch lower

The Sig 522 which was stolen is pictured above. With a rail mount scope and a side flip butt.
